NIC SOTELO HAS PASSED AWAY

It is with great sadness that I report to you, the passing of Nic Sotelo.  Nic fought cancer with everything he had, never giving an inch.  After his brave and courageous battle, Nic can finally rest in peace, and be free from pain.  At least he was able to pass in his own home, on his couch, watching TV, with his son Kaden, Nic just kind of went to sleep.

What can you say to a family that has been through so much, battled so hard, and lost their rock?  There really are no magic words of comfort to take away the pain.  Surely there were times when Nic grew tired and frustrated, but throughout it all, he did what he could to hang around for just a little while longer.  He was way too young and wanted so badly to experience all that life had to offer.  It is only natural to mourn the loss of such a man, but I choose to remember who he was, what he stood for, and the tremendous strength he showed throughout his fight.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to his wife Brianna, their sons Kaden and Dominic, and his mother-in-law Liz Manley.  May you find the peace you need at this time of loss.

He will be waked Monday, July 2nd from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home in Michigan.  Nic will be cremated and his funeral services will be at the funeral home the following day.

Cards of encouragement, expressing your sympathy, can be sent to the family at, 30569 Austin Court, Chesterfield, MI 48051.

SOUTHFIELD — Brianna Sotelo of Chesterfield Township was selected as the recipient of a free two-year lease of a 2012 Buick Regal, courtesy of Art Moran Buick GMC in Southfield.

Sotelo’s win was part of the Extraordinary Women campaign by Art Moran and Soft Rock 105.1. Since October, two extraordinary women have been selected each month based on letters submitted to the radio station.

“Extraordinary women in the community from the lake all the way over to 275 and Jefferson all the way up to Auburn Hills,” said Dave Webb, Art Moran sales manager, explaining who was eligible to participate in the contest. “They did stuff in the community to help out the community.”

The 62nd Lindskoog Family Reunion was held at South Park, Waupaca, Wisconsin, on Saturday June 25th, hosted by the Evie Brown & Carol Beckland families.  The weather was absolutely perfect, after many days of rain.

It’s important that these issues be raised, it’s important to recognize the place of disputed beliefs in our society, and respect them. buy generic cialis In time of copulation, this pfizer viagra samples helps to flow more blood in the veins and arteries of the organs are getting lot blood and thus it makes a nice compliment to my present hair loss regimen and could assist increasing hair count any time used with other hair loss treatment plans. There were 89 people (70 adults & 19 kids) in attendance.  The oldest being Evie Brown (85 years old) and the youngest being Lucille Greenfield (5 months).  Dawn, Lane, & Gunnar Lindeman traveled the farthest, coming all the way from Rancho Santa Margarita, California.  The big Wiggs (Marilyn & Ron) came from Mesa, Arizona.  Liz Manley & the Sotelos (it was great to see Nic looking so good) came from Michigan.  Traveling from Colorado were Ami Brown, Ashanti, & Ginger while all others came from either Wisconsin or Illinois.  Eva Miller, who would’ve been 100 on the 12th of June & Harry Goodman passed on since the last Reunion and were missed.  Newborns in this past year were Wren Violet daughter of Ryan & Jen Richards, Lucille Anne daughter of Erik & Kate Richards, Eva Antonia daughter of Wes & Natalia Henricksen, Allie Belle daughter of Ross & Alicia Brown, and twin sons Cooper Jack & Dawson Rylee were born to Jeff & Kati Wiggerman.

Interestingly, for the first time ever, there was not a family member with the last name Lindskoog at the Reunion.

As is tradition, the family picture was taken by resident family photographer, David Greenfield, and remember, “If you can’t see the camera, the camera can’t see you”.

There were many treasures to be had at the Lindskoog White Elephant table, where a silent auction helped hold down the cost of the reunion to $5.00 per adult.  That bargain price included delicious food (hot beef sandwiches, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, cheese & hardtack, homemade pickles, & nachos), scrumptious desserts, along with various flavored drinks, coffee, & water.  The food was homemade and it was very tasty, all of the hard work was very much appreciated.  Bill Mielke said grace before the meal was eaten.

The kids had a blast, & won prizes, playing team relay fill-the-bucket-with-sand, and bowling down water bottles.  Everyone joined in in singing the National Anthem and then it was time for the horse races.  The horse races featured jockeys of all ages, who moved their plastic mounts according to dice rolls, and everyone bet on their favorites.  Kirk Wiggerman was a two time winning jockey, while Dru Brown was the luckiest gambler, winning 20 chips.  Nathan Kaminski won the dollar bill raffle.

Thanks to everyone for all your hard work, a good time was had by all.  The Eva Miller family will host the 63rd Lindskoog Family Reunion on Saturday June 23rd in the Chicago area, be there or be square.

Sorry for the delay in updating, we’ve been too busy having fun! It has been so nice to feel “normal” even if it has been only for a couple of weeks. I’m just soaking up every last second, and am not letting a single moment pass us by. We made it to the zoo, a few parties, and Nic has been able to go outside and play with the kids. He’s been working on Kaden’s baseball skills, and you should see Kaden’s face light up when they have their time together. Priceless! I live for these moments, and I’m not ready to let them go! But, for the day in the life of a Sarcoma family, we live life in 3 month increments. Tomorrow is scan day, and the anxiety has definitely set in. Please say some extra prayers for Nic. We NEED stable scans. Now more than ever. Please lift him up! We will get the results on Monday, so I will post again then. Thank you everyone for the continued thoughts, prayers, and support. Nic Sotelo Battling Cancer

nic soteloNic now has 10 Chemo treatments under his belt. He just wrapped the last one up this past Monday. These new Chemo drugs were supposed to be easier to tolerate than the last, but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case so far. He is still so  swollen in his legs/feet/ankles, it’s getting pretty hard for him to get around. His thigh right now is about the size of my waist! He’s put on close to 30 lbs in water weight! At our last appt. Dr. Chugh was out of town so we were only able to meet with her PA, Amanda. She prescribed Nic  compression stockings(aka Knee highs) to help with the swelling. The stockings have helped a little but get uncomfortable for Nic after a while. ( I call him “mama” because he looks like Vicki Lawrence from, Mama’s family in them-haha) Amanda also put him back on his water pill to see if that will help. The only problem with that is, it’s the same pill he used to take that makes his blood pressure drop, and gave him those fainting spells. They also decreased his chemo dose again slightly this go around, so let’s keep praying Nic can continue with these drugs! We are scheduled for a CT scan on November 30th. Please keep praying the Chemo is helping!!

Last Thursday, we had a meeting at Henry Ford with the original Heart surgeon, and nurse. I had given Nic’s case file to him to look over after I was so upset about hearing the tumor was inoperable. He assured us that Dr. Pagani is the best of the best when it comes to Heart surgeries. He may not have the best “bedside manner” but we should feel confident in his decisions. We have accepted this, and are just grateful to always get the facts even though it may not be what we want to hear. Our miracle will come, we just have to be patient. The “not knowing” is what makes it so hard.  With other more common Cancers, you get a treatment plan, and you know what the steps are, and what to expect. We don’t get any answers because noone knows.  We are all just getting physically sick with all of this. The chemo just has to work because I do not want to see my husband suffer like this for nothing!

Our prayers are being answered though, just in other ways. I can’t even tell you enough how grateful we are for everything that you all have done for our family! Words cannot even express how much we appreciate EVERYTHING!!  I promise to ALWAYS PAY IT FORWARD.  THANK YOU!! I’ll admit, I haven’t checked our mailbox in quite a while because the mailman can just keep all those bills!! Well, I did finally grab it this weekend, and all the cards, notes etc. that we received really  cheered us up, so THANK YOU for continuing to think of us!!!(I guess I should check the mail more often!) I do receive everyone’s emails, voicemails, letters, texts, but I don’t always respond back right away. Please know that your messages are received and mean so much to us. I’ve just been having “my moment” a little more often lately so I apologize for not responding to everyone sooner.

I always like to end on a good note, so here’s my cute story of the night… There are some wonderful people at Chrysler(forgive me for forgetting the plant name) who have adopted my children for Christmas. I needed to give them a list of 3 things each of the kids would want, and they’ll choose one.  When I asked Kaden what he wanted, of course he responded with a “Wii”. I explained to him that if they were to get him a Wii, they wouldn’t have enough money to get the other kids presents. He took that off the list, and said all he needed was a big bouncy ball, and maybe a new pair of swim trunks. He just melts my heart. He really is an amazing 5 yr old. Whenever we get so angry at our situation, we just look at our boys, and remember how blessed we truly are.

This update was written by Brianna Sotelo in her husband Nic’s journal, which can be viewed by clicking here.  www.CaringBridge.org is a great way to follow a loved one’s progress, and Brianna does an amazing job keeping us all updated, it’s like we’re in there, fighting, alongside Nic & Brianna’s family.  You may have to signup, create a member name & password, but it’s so worth it, no junk e-mail, just an e-mail to let you know when there is a journal update.  We all are pulling for that chemo to do the trick, shrink that nasty old tumor, so the surgeons can get in there and get it out of there.  Send Nic a Get Well card to let him know you’re thinking of him, and wish him a full recovery, nothing but the best for one of the best.  Nic Sotelo, 30569 Austin Ct., Chesterfield, MI 58051.

3 Day Cancer Walk Thank You

lizHello Everyone ………

First off, I would like to thank you all for helping make my first 60 mile, 3-day walk a complete success. With your help, the Michigan 3-day raised almost $5 million towards a cure for cancer.
Let me take you through a short recap of our journey ….

Day 1, August 14 – Starting point – The Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn. We checked in, and enjoyed a very touching opening ceremony, which gave us all a kick-start to the day. We began our walk at 7:00. Day one took us through neighborhoods of Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Redford, then to camp in Livonia. Day one was very exciting, as many residents and businesses were out and about giving us their support. Superior Ambulance Company traveled along our route, blasting fun music and cheering everyone on. As the afternoon arrived, the temperature was up in the 90’s. It was hot, hot, hot! I never drank so much water and Gatorade in my life! There were various “pit stops” along our way where we could sit down, rest, and refuel our canteens. There was also medical staff available if needed, and food and snacks to keep you going. We never sat for too long, just enough time to check our feet for blisters and munch on some goodies – then we were on our way again. We finally made it to camp, around 3:30 p.m., where dinner was waiting. We were all so hot and tired, we couldn’t even eat. My teammates were headed to their tents for a nap, while I was headed to my air conditioned hotel room, with a nice whirlpool bath, cool shower, and comfy bed – my daughter, Brianna, decided to join me at my camp after discovering her tent was about 100 degrees. We each took a nice, long, cool shower, then went to bed around 7:00 …..

Day 2, August 15 – We awoke at 4:00 a.m., rested and ready for day two. We drove to camp, met our teammates at breakfast, and were in line ready to walk by 6:30. Day two took us through parts of Livonia and Plymouth – Day 2 was so much fun! There were people everywhere handing out drinks, food and, best of all, popsicles © Another great gift was baggies of ice – we would shove them on our bodies anywhere why would go – it made the heat so much less intense. Downtown Plymouth was the best! The entire town was decorated for the 3-day, they dyed the town fountain pink, and there were hundreds of people lining the sidewalks and streets cheering us on and giving their support. It was very emotional, and they made you feel like celebrities walking down the red carpet. Residents of Plymouth decorated their houses and lawns, and were camped out on their lawns handing out food, drinks, and even 3-day beads and trinkets. By” the time we made it back to camp, around 3:00, we were all loaded down with all the gifts handed out. Before dinner, we went to the mail tent to see who sent us cards and letters of encouragement. It was nice to be remembered, and it brought a little bit of home to camp. After dinner, which we all were able to enjoy that night, we all went to our “camp tents” (ha ha) to get a good rest for day three.

Day 3, August 16 – Again, we awoke at 4:00 a.m., rested and ready. We met our teammates at breakfast, and we were all feeling pretty good about day three. Since the walking route had changed, we were all bussed to Ann Arbor to begin our journey for day three. We were lucky to be in one of the first few busses that left, and were lucky because some of the busses took the wrong exit and got lost on their way to the starting point. So, we were four of the first 200 to start off day three. This day took us through the University of Michigan campus and surrounding neighborhoods. Day three was quite uneventful, as the Ann Arbor residents were no where to be found. Oh well, it was a peaceful, quiet 20 miles, which led us to the finish line on the property of Washtenaw Community College. There, we had such a reception from fellow walkers, 3-day crew and others who just came to celebrate with us.

The walk was certainly challenging, but something I, personally, am very proud of completing with only two blisters, sore muscles and a sun burn. I finished day three as walker number 207, with my teammates right behind me at 208 – 210, out of the 1800 who walked. We had three hours to rest at the “holding” area before closing ceremonies. It was nice to see family and friends come to give their support as we waited. We took that last ‘/2 mile walk to closing ceremonies, celebrated with all our fellow walkers, and were ready to go home!!!!!

It was an honor to walk in memory of my mother, and for all those who suffer from this disease, no matter what form. I truly appreciate everyone’s support during the months prior to the walk – all your donations, prayers and thoughts were more than I could have ever asked for. I hope you enjoy the short glimpse of the walk I have made for you – it is a very small “thank you” for all you have done .

With sincere thanks, hugs & kisses    ~ Liz ~
